Still Love His Smile
A Personal Reflection from Cynthia D. Jones
There are some things time cannot erase. A smile is one of them.
I began writing these thoughts while my husband, Quentin, was still here with me. At the time, I simply wanted to capture one of the many things I loved about him. Today, as I read those same words, they carry an even deeper meaning.
I wrote:
I love my husband’s smile. I love to see his eyes twinkle and the little creases in the corners of his eyes appear. I love to see his teeth—all 35 of them. Yes, he had a few extra, but thanks to braces they lined up perfectly, like soldiers standing at attention. His smile was contagious, and everyone who experienced it knew it was genuine. It came from the depths of his soul, from where love overflowed.
Q encouraged others and always reassured all people everywhere that they mattered. His kindness was as sincere as his smile, and his generosity to serve others was a calling from God that he lived out every day.
I miss his unmistakable sense of style. I miss hearing his voice preach and pray God’s Word with wisdom, sincerity, and conviction. He was a living testimony!
Grief has taught me something I never fully understood; love doesn’t end when a life does. I still feel his presence but in a different way now. Our life experiences have become memories. The embraces have become cherished moments.
The Q Jones Legacy Scholarship Fund reflects the values Quentin lived every day—faith, integrity, kindness, excellence, generosity, and service. If his legacy can help students achieve their purpose and walk victoriously into their future, then his smile will forever continue to shine from Glory!
Some people leave memories. Others leave a legacy.
Quentin Jones left both.
